COLUMBIA HEIGHTS770 GIRARD STREET NW 1EWASHINGTON, DC 20001
Located in the historic Helicopter Factory, this two-bedroom, two-bathroom duplex condominium offers loft-style living with natural materials, industrial character, and the convenience of dedicated parking. The property is just over a 10-minute walk to Whole Foods, Atlantic Plumbing, The Shay, and the U Street Metro, providing convenient access to neighborhood restaurants, shopping, entertainment, and public transportation. Originally home to the Gyro Motor Company, the building played a role in early American aviation history. In July 1909, inventor Emile Berliner successfully tested an early helicopter-predecessor aircraft powered by a rotary engine at the property, contributing to the development of vertical flight. Redeveloped in 2016 by Brick Lane and Brook Rose Development, the historic industrial building was transformed into distinctive loft-style residences that retain elements of its original character.
